About YES Basement: Layout, History & Architecture

YES operates within a converted multi-storey building on Charles Street, Manchester, occupying a structure that previously served as a printing press and retail unit. The Basement, situated beneath the ground-floor bar, was established as a dedicated music venue in 2018. Architecturally, the space is utilitarian, defined by its low ceiling, exposed concrete, and minimalist finishes, consistent with its function as a raw performance environment. It functions as a single, flat-floor standing room, capable of accommodating approximately 250 patrons. Sightlines are generally direct given the compact nature of the space and the slightly raised stage, though full visibility can become limited towards the rear during peak crowd density. Acoustically, the low ceiling and hard surfaces contribute to a direct, immediate sound projection. Bass frequencies are often prominent, and the close proximity to the stage creates an immersive, if occasionally intense, sonic environment, heavily reliant on a well-tuned PA system to manage the room's inherent reflections.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to the Basement is facilitated via the main YES entrance on Charles Street, requiring patrons to descend a staircase from the ground floor. Prior to entering the Basement, attendees can utilise the ground-floor bar for refreshments or access the larger Pink Room bar located on the floor above for additional space. The performance area itself is intimate, fostering a dense standing pit directly facing the stage. The atmosphere is typically energetic, a direct result of the close proximity between performers and audience. With 0 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing. The next confirmed event on the calendar is upcoming live performances on soon.
