About Under The Arches: Layout, History & Architecture

"Under The Arches" occupies a series of interconnected Victorian railway arches, dating from the late 1800s, originally constructed to support lines leading into Leeds City Station. The venue, redeveloped and opened for live events in 2011, retains the robust industrial aesthetic of its origins. The primary performance space is a long, rectangular hall with a capacity of approximately 750 standing patrons. Its defining architectural features are the high, vaulted brick ceilings and exposed structural elements, complemented by a utilitarian concrete floor and a permanently installed stage at one end.

This configuration provides a generally unimpeded view of the stage from most areas of the main hall, though the length of the space means visibility becomes more distant towards the rear. There are no tiered balconies or seated sections; the experience is entirely flat-floor standing. Acoustically, the inherent nature of brick arches presents challenges. The hard, vaulted surfaces create a lively, resonant environment that demands sophisticated sound engineering. While the installed PA system is capable and well-tuned, the space retains a distinct, somewhat reverberant character, particularly noticeable in the low-mid frequencies, offering an immediate and unfiltered connection to the live sound.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entering "Under The Arches" involves a straightforward ingress procedure through a dedicated entrance archway, leading directly into a compact foyer area. This space houses initial security checks and leads to the main auditorium. Bars are positioned efficiently at either end of the main hall, designed for rapid service. Within the main standing pit, proximity to the stage is direct, fostering an energetic and immersive crowd atmosphere, particularly for high-intensity performances. The utilitarian design prioritises function and raw connection to the event.

With 0 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing. The next confirmed event on the calendar is upcoming live performances on soon. The venue's schedule frequently features contemporary music and underground club nights, capitalising on its industrial aesthetic and capacity.
