About The Factory Live: Layout, History & Architecture

Originally constructed in 1988 as a light industrial warehouse, The Factory Live underwent a significant repurposing in 2017, transforming into a large-scale performance venue while retaining much of its utilitarian aesthetic. The architectural style leans into Industrial Modernism, characterised by exposed concrete surfaces, robust steel girders, and visible utilities that traverse the high ceilings. The main auditorium is a vast, open-plan space with a maximum standing capacity of 1,500 patrons. The floor is entirely flat, providing a direct, unhindered view of the stage for those close to the front. Towards the rear, a slightly elevated platform offers a modest VIP section, providing a clear sightline over the general admission area.

The hall's extensive dimensions and hard, reflective surfaces inherently present acoustic challenges typical of converted industrial spaces. Sound fidelity relies heavily on a comprehensive, precisely tuned installed PA system. While clarity can be excellent directly within the main sound field, off-axis positions or areas further from the stage may experience increased reverberation and a slight loss of definition, particularly with bass frequencies. The design prioritises sheer capacity and an immersive visual experience, rather than natural acoustic warmth, demanding a robust sound engineering approach for each performance.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Access to The Factory Live typically involves an outdoor queuing area, leading to a thorough security checkpoint before entry into the main building. The foyer area is functional, featuring several temporary bar stations to manage peak demand, though space can feel constrained during high-capacity events. Inside, the flat standing floor encourages a dense, energetic crowd presence directly in front of the stage, creating an immediate connection between audience and performer. Those preferring a less intense experience may find the elevated rear platform offers a more relaxed vantage point, albeit further from the action.

The atmosphere is consistently vibrant, reflecting the venue's raw, industrial character. With 1 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £67.39. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Hothouse Flowers on 4th November 2026.
