About The Amex Stadium: Layout, History & Architecture

Constructed and opened in 2011, The Amex Stadium presents a contemporary bowl-shaped design, primarily engineered for large-scale sporting events but readily adaptable for major concert productions. Designed by KSS Design Group, the structure primarily utilises steel, concrete, and glass, reflecting a functional modernist approach to stadium architecture. The hall's standard capacity for football matches is 31,876, which can be configured for live music events to accommodate both standing audiences on the pitch and seated attendees across its multiple tiers.

Sightlines across the auditorium are generally unobstructed, benefiting from the stadium's purpose-built design for pitch viewing. For concerts, those on the standing floor gain direct proximity to the stage, while tiered seating offers panoramic but increasingly distant views towards the performance. Acoustically, the venue functions as a vast, open concrete bowl. While this design generates an immense, reverberant soundscape well-suited to crowd roar, it necessitates powerful and precisely tuned PA systems for musical performances. The inherent echo and scale mean that sound clarity relies heavily on amplification, rather than natural acoustic properties.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Ingress at the stadium is facilitated through numerous designated gates around its perimeter, designed to manage large crowds efficiently. Once inside, wide concourses host multiple refreshment points and bars, operating on a cashless basis. For standing concerts, the pitch floor can become densely packed, offering an immersive experience close to the stage, while seated tiers provide clear sightlines but can feel more detached from the immediate energy of the performance. The atmosphere at live events here is amplified by the sheer scale of the space, creating a collective energy that resonates through the bowl. With 19 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing.
