About Teatro Principal de Alicante: Layout, History & Architecture
Inaugurated on September 25, 1847, the Teatro Principal de Alicante is a distinguished example of 19th-century Neoclassical theatre architecture. Designed by architect Emilio Jover, the building features a traditional Italianate horseshoe configuration, optimising sightlines and acoustic projection for unamplified performances. The auditorium is arranged across a platea (stalls), four levels of boxes (palcos), and a spacious upper amphitheatre tier, accommodating approximately 1,100 seated patrons.
