Stylus, a versatile performance hall located within the Leeds University Union building, primarily dates its architectural origins to the functionalist design trends of 1939. Originally conceived as a multi-purpose space within the wider university complex, its structure features a large, rectangular footprint with a predominantly flat standing floor, offering capacity for up to 1,500 patrons. The high ceilings and expansive dimensions, characteristic of its era's utility-focused university architecture, define the hall's interior.

While the design prioritises adaptability over inherent acoustic purity, the generous proportions mean that sightlines across the unencumbered floor are generally clear, though shorter attendees towards the rear may encounter limited views during crowded events. Acoustically, the hall operates as a typical large, hard-surfaced space, relying heavily on professional sound reinforcement systems to manage the inherent reverberance and deliver a coherent audio experience. Clarity and impact are thus contingent on the quality and calibration of the installed PA.

Ingress to Stylus is managed through the main Leeds University Union entrance on Lifton Place, leading into a series of internal foyers that house several bars, alleviating pre-show congestion. Once inside, the experience is largely defined by the dense, standing-room-only environment of the main floor.
