Silverworks Island is a significant event space, repurposed from a substantial industrial complex originally constructed in the mid-1970s. Its current incarnation, completed in 2003, preserves much of the original brutalist concrete and steel framework, creating an imposing, starkly functional aesthetic. The primary event space, "The Great Foundry Hall," is a vast, high-ceilinged chamber designed for maximum flexibility. With a capacity of up to 5,000 standing or 2,500 in various seated configurations, the hall features a largely flat concrete floor, allowing for diverse stage setups. Two tiered, cantilevered balconies flank the main space, providing elevated viewing with largely unimpeded sightlines, though the raw concrete pillars supporting the roof structure can cause minor obstructions for some extreme side seats.
Acoustically, the sheer volume and hard surfaces of the Great Foundry Hall necessitate comprehensive sound reinforcement. While the bespoke line array system is powerful, the natural reverberation within the concrete shell means the space demands careful audio engineering to prevent muddiness, especially for unamplified performances. The design prioritises adaptability and scale over inherent acoustic warmth. Adjacent to the main hall are several smaller, more intimate industrial-chic spaces, also featuring exposed concrete and metalwork, often used for breakout sessions or pre-show activations.
