The Scarborough Spa Theatre complex, situated directly on the South Bay foreshore, traces its origins as a therapeutic spa back to the 17th century. The current primary performance space, the Grand Hall, opened in 1914 following a devastating fire, replacing an earlier Victorian theatre. Its architectural style leans towards Edwardian Baroque, characterised by a formal proscenium arch stage, tiered seating across stalls, circle, and upper circle levels, providing a seated capacity of approximately 1,800. Additionally, the complex houses the Spa Suncourt, an open-air venue suitable for standing events, and the more intimate Ocean Room.
