About Sala Marte: Layout, History & Architecture
Sala Marte, converted in 2018 from a disused industrial warehouse, embodies a post-industrial utilitarian architectural style, characterised by its exposed concrete structure and steel accents. The main performance hall, a singular, expansive space, provides a standing capacity for up to 800 patrons. The design prioritises functional aesthetics, featuring high ceilings and a main floor that slopes gently towards a wide, elevated stage, ensuring relatively clear sightlines for most attendees. There are no fixed seating areas or tiered balconies within the primary performance zone.
The raw material palette of concrete and steel, while visually striking, inherently presents acoustic challenges. The hall relies heavily on its installed professional-grade PA system, which has been acoustically tuned to mitigate the natural reverberation. While the sound engineering team diligently works to deliver clarity, the inherent characteristics of the building materials mean the auditory experience can vary, often displaying a lively resonance, particularly during louder performances. Minimal sound-absorbing panels are strategically placed on select wall sections, but the space’s core integrity as a repurposed industrial shell remains paramount.

Ingress to the venue is via a main entrance on Calle Alemania, leading directly into a modest foyer area. This space houses two functional bar stations, designed for efficient service without extensive seating.
