Richmond Theatre, an exemplary work by the esteemed theatrical architect Frank Matcham, first opened its doors in 1899. Designed in a opulent Victorian style, the building features a striking red-brick and terracotta façade that introduces its elaborate interiors. The auditorium operates with a traditional proscenium arch stage, framed by ornate plasterwork and decorative elements typical of its era. Seating is configured across three main tiers: the Stalls on the ground floor, the Dress Circle, and the Upper Circle, complemented by a series of private boxes.
The hall has an approximate capacity of 850 patrons. Sightlines are generally good across the Stalls and Dress Circle, offering clear views of the stage. However, as is common in Victorian theatre architecture, certain seats, particularly in the Upper Circle or under the overhangs of the upper tiers, may experience minor visual obstructions from supporting pillars or balcony projections.
