Originally consecrated in the 13th century, Revelation occupies the historic St Mary's Church on North Street, Ashford. The building, largely rebuilt and restored in the Victorian era while retaining its core Perpendicular Gothic elements, was deconsecrated in 2010 and subsequently repurposed as a dedicated arts and performance space. This transformation allows audiences to experience contemporary live events within a structure whose architectural integrity has been carefully preserved. The primary performance area is situated within the nave, typically configured with flexible seating or a flat standing floor, offering a capacity that ranges from approximately 250 seated to up to 400 for standing events.

The space's unique character is defined by its high vaulted ceilings, large stained-glass windows, and the substantial stone pillars that line the nave. While these architectural features contribute significantly to the venue's gravitas and visual appeal, they also present inherent acoustic and sightline realities. The stone construction and considerable volume lead to a naturally long reverberation time, which can be particularly suitable for unamplified acoustic performances, choral works, and classical music, creating a resonant and immersive sonic environment. For amplified contemporary genres, sophisticated sound reinforcement systems are deployed to manage the natural reverb and ensure clarity, though the inherent characteristics of the building mean acoustic engineers work to balance articulation with the natural decay. Furthermore, sightlines for certain positions within the nave can be partially obstructed by the robust Gothic pillars.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to the venue is typically via the grand west door, leading directly into the narthex and then into the main nave. Depending on the event configuration, patrons will find either a standing floor or rows of temporary seating. Foyer amenities are generally concise, often comprising a temporary bar service within a side aisle or the narthex, designed to be functional without detracting from the historic setting. The atmosphere within the hall tends to be intimate and focused, a direct result of performing within a historically significant space where the architecture itself commands a certain reverence. Audience proximity to the stage is generally good, ensuring a close engagement with performers regardless of whether the event is seated or standing.
