The Leeds University Union Building, originally completed in 1939, features an inter-war Modernist aesthetic with subsequent functional extensions. Its primary performance space, The Refectory, occupies a substantial, utilitarian hall integrated within the complex. This multi-purpose hall, typical of university facilities from its era, operates predominantly as a large-capacity standing venue, accommodating up to 2,100 patrons. The layout comprises a vast, flat floor leading directly to a permanent stage, with no tiered seating or dedicated balconies, which facilitates a direct connection between audience and performer.
