Henham Park, a vast 800-acre rural estate located near Southwold in Suffolk, serves not as a singular architectural edifice but as a dynamic, open-air canvas for large-scale events, most notably the annual Latitude Festival. The estate's primary historic structure is Henham Hall, an impressive but structurally precarious country house dating back to the late 18th century, which is not actively used as a public venue space. Instead, the 'venue' configuration materialises through the strategic placement of temporary stages, performance marquees, and crowd infrastructure across its expansive fields and wooded areas. This temporary architecture allows for an adaptable capacity, frequently accommodating tens of thousands of attendees for major events.

The layout is characterised by its decentralised nature, featuring multiple performance zones dispersed across the parkland. Main stages are typically sited in large, relatively flat clearings, offering expansive sightlines for mass audiences, though visibility can be impacted by crowd density and the natural contours of the landscape, including slight undulations or tree lines. Smaller stages and tents are nestled within more intimate clearings or specially constructed zones. Acoustically, the open-air environment presents inherent challenges; sound quality is significantly influenced by prevailing wind conditions, crowd absorption, and the robust but variable nature of temporary PA systems. While powerful, these systems contend with the lack of natural acoustic reinforcement, and sound bleed between distant, simultaneously active stages is an expected reality, shaping the overall auditory experience rather than offering a contained, acoustically engineered environment.

Entering Henham Park typically involves navigating designated car parks or bus drop-off points, followed by a walk across fields to one of several main entrance gates. Ingress is managed for large crowds, often leading to substantial queues during peak arrival times. Once inside, the experience is defined by the expanse of the park, with considerable walking distances between performance areas. The concept of a traditional 'foyer bar' is replaced by numerous temporary bar structures and food vendors scattered throughout the site. Performance areas are predominantly standing pits in open fields, lacking fixed tiered seating or balconies, which fosters a direct, immersive atmosphere but means sightlines are primarily determined by one's proximity to the stage and the density of the surrounding crowd.
