About GRETCHEN: Layout, History & Architecture
Constructed in the late 19th century as part of the Prussian Dragoon Barracks, the building housing Gretchen was originally a riding hall and stables. Adapted for live music in the early 2010s, the venue retains elements of its industrial heritage, featuring exposed brickwork, robust concrete elements, and a functional aesthetic within its two primary event spaces.
The main auditorium is a large, rectangular space with a flat concrete floor designed for standing audiences, accommodating approximately 700-800 patrons.
