About DUST: Layout, History & Architecture

DUST occupies a repurposed municipal facility constructed in the mid-1970s, presenting a clear example of late Brutalist architecture. The building's exterior features raw concrete and exposed aggregate, reflecting its original utilitarian purpose. Inside, the design ethos continues with a high ceiling, visible steel beams, and an expansive concrete floor throughout the main auditorium. With a standing capacity of approximately 950 patrons, the hall is primarily a single-level space.

The main floor offers a direct, immersive experience, though sightlines towards the stage can be challenging for shorter individuals positioned away from the front. A slightly elevated viewing platform is situated at the rear of the hall, providing a modest gradient for improved perspective over the standing crowd. Two substantial, raw concrete structural pillars are positioned towards the mid-section of the space; these can create partial sightline obstructions depending on one's specific vantage point. Acoustically, the hall's hard, reflective surfaces – concrete, metal, and glass – result in a naturally lively and reverberant sound profile. Sound reinforcement relies heavily on a precisely calibrated line array PA system and strategic acoustic treatment to manage decay times and ensure clarity, particularly for vocals, within the inherently energetic sonic environment.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to DUST is through the main doors located directly on Madeira Drive, typically leading into a functional, rather than opulent, foyer area. A primary bar is situated within this initial space, with a smaller secondary bar located inside the main hall for convenience. The standing floor provides a raw, direct experience, fostering an intense crowd atmosphere that can become quite dense at peak times, especially near the stage. Those preferring a less congested view will find the elevated rear platform offers a broader, albeit more distant, perspective. With 1 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £110. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Francis Of Delirium on 30th September 2026.
