About Connexin Live: Layout, History & Architecture

Connexin Live, inaugurated in August 2018, stands as a purpose-built contemporary arena in Hull's regenerating waterfront quarter. Its architectural design features a modern glass and steel façade, reflecting a focus on functionality and clear internal circulation. The hall offers a flexible capacity, accommodating up to 3,500 attendees for standing events or 2,500 in a fully seated configuration. The primary performance space on the ground floor is a flat concrete slab, adaptable for a dense standing pit or various seated arrangements. This is complemented by a single tier of fixed, raked seating that curves around the main stage area, providing elevated perspectives.

Sightlines from the upper tiered seating are generally unobstructed, engineered to offer clear views of the stage from most positions. On the main standing floor, the experience is more direct and immersive, with sightlines typical of a large open space, subject to crowd density and individual height. Acoustically, as a modern, large-volume performance space with extensive hard surfaces, the auditorium relies significantly on its integrated sound reinforcement system. The design prioritises the controlled delivery of amplified sound through a robust PA system to achieve clarity and impact across the entire space, rather than depending on natural room acoustics.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entering Connexin Live, patrons typically pass through the main entrance situated on the venue's forecourt, leading into a spacious foyer equipped with multiple bar areas designed to manage pre-show and interval traffic efficiently. The live experience varies significantly between the standing pit and the seated balcony. Downstairs, the standing area provides an immediate, high-energy proximity to the stage, ideal for immersive performances, though it can become dense. Upstairs, the tiered seating offers a more composed viewing experience with consistent, elevated sightlines. The atmosphere across the hall is typically vibrant, shaped by the diversity of performances from music concerts to comedy and sporting events. With 7 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £35. The next confirmed event on the calendar is The Reytons on 16th October 2026.
