Originally constructed in 1978 as part of a larger commercial development, Club Colette occupies a substantial ground-floor and mezzanine space within a converted mid-20th century building on Smallbrook Queensway. The architectural style blends retained elements of its original brutalist concrete façade with contemporary industrial interior design, characterised by exposed structural steelwork and polished concrete finishes. The main auditorium provides a flat standing floor with a maximum capacity of 900 patrons. The stage is moderately raised, ensuring visibility for those closer to the front.

A prominent feature is the substantial concrete and steel mezzanine level, which extends along three sides of the hall. This upper tier houses additional bars and offers elevated vantage points over the main performance area. While the mezzanine provides a clear overview, a series of robust steel pillars supporting the upper structure can partially obstruct peripheral sightlines from specific locations on this level. Acoustically, the inherent reflectivity of the concrete walls and high ceiling sections creates a lively, often reverberant environment. Sound reinforcement relies on a powerful, multi-point line array PA system, delivering strong mid-range presence. However, deep bass frequencies can occasionally build up under the mezzanine overhangs, and high-frequency reflections are a characteristic of the space without careful mixing. The lower ceiling areas beneath the mezzanine offer a more direct, less diffused sonic experience.

Ingress into Club Colette is managed through a dedicated street-level entrance on Smallbrook Queensway, where queues frequently extend outdoors during peak times. Beyond the efficient security checks, a functional foyer leads patrons to a primary bar before entry into the main auditorium. The standing pit for live performances can become quite dense, particularly during sold-out events, which contributes to a noticeably high ambient temperature. For a more spacious experience and clearer sightlines, the mezzanine level provides elevated viewing with less immediate crowd pressure.
