The current iteration of Ancienne Belgique, often referred to simply as AB, occupies a site with a significant entertainment lineage in central Brussels. While its origins as a variety theatre date back over a century, the building underwent extensive renovations and reopened in its modern form as a dedicated contemporary music venue in 1994. The architecture is primarily functional and contemporary within a historical shell, showcasing clean lines and efficient crowd flow design rather than ornate detailing. The main hall, a versatile standing room, accommodates approximately 2,000 patrons. This space features a large, flat main floor that extends directly to the stage, complemented by a fixed, raked balcony offering elevated perspectives.

Below the main hall, The Club provides a more intimate setting, designed for emerging artists and smaller audiences, with a capacity of around 200-300 standing. Sightlines in the main hall are generally unimpeded from most positions on the ground floor, though reaching the very front requires early arrival. The balcony offers clear views over the crowd below. Acoustically, the main hall is engineered for amplified music, utilizing modern sound reinforcement systems to deliver a controlled and impactful experience. While not aiming for cathedral-like reverberation, the space provides a direct and present sound profile, relying heavily on the quality of the touring PA system rather than inherent natural room acoustics, which can occasionally lead to a less refined experience at the extremities of the space during peak occupancy.
