Back To The Beginning, Ozzy Osbourne's last show with Black Sabbath at Villa Park, comes out on 11 December 2026 on 4K, Blu-ray, CD, vinyl and digital.

The release

The concert film and soundtrack of Back To The Beginning, Ozzy Osbourne's farewell show with Black Sabbath, will be released on Friday 11 December 2026. It comes out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, CD, double vinyl and digital, with pre-orders opening on 28 October, the same day the film opened in cinemas around the world.

The release was announced on Ozzy Osbourne's official site, alongside a recording of Mr Crowley from the show, which was made available straight away. The film was produced by Mercury Studios, which is also releasing the soundtrack worldwide, and Trafalgar Releasing took it into cinemas as a global event screening.

There are several versions. The film comes as a two-disc Blu-ray and CD set and as a Blu-ray and double vinyl set, and the vinyl editions come in a standard black pressing and three coloured variants: grey splatter from Ozzy's own store, purple splatter from the Black Sabbath store and a metallic version for specialist and independent shops. The film is presented in Dolby Atmos as well as standard stereo and surround sound.

A larger deluxe box set follows on 23 April 2027, with pre-orders open now. According to the official announcement it adds an extra Blu-ray with all 35 Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath songs and covers played by the guest artists on the day, along with memorabilia including a pendant necklace, a numbered certificate and a poster print. Louder, the rock magazine website, reported that the box holds three Blu-ray discs, two CDs, three LPs and a 72-page hardback book.

Matt Mills reported this first for Louder. Checked against Ozzy Osbourne official site: Back To The Beginning soundtrack and film release.

What is on it

The official announcement gives the running time of the home release as three and a half hours. Louder reported that the film itself runs to 147 minutes and that the sets also include the full performances by Black Sabbath and by Ozzy Osbourne's solo band.

The extras include two guest performances: Jack Black singing Mr Crowley and Fred Durst, of Limp Bizkit, singing the Black Sabbath ballad Changes. There is also a behind-the-scenes film, a set of video tributes, with clips from Dolly Parton, AC/DC and Ricky Gervais among others, and a documentary called Sounds of Birmingham about the city the band came from.

The film was directed for the screen by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, and the live concert was directed by Tim van Someren. A separate digital live album with the Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne sets also comes out on 11 December, Louder reported.

What the family and the producers said

Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and manager, oversaw the concert and was an executive producer on the film. In the announcement she called it a once-in-a-lifetime day, and said her husband had suffered from chronic pain for the last six years of his life. "His only wish was to perform one last time to thank his fans and say goodbye," she said.

She also described the day as one when his peers from across the rock world came to Aston from all over the globe to celebrate him. Aston is the part of Birmingham where Ozzy grew up and where Villa Park stands.

Tristan Whitlam of Mercury Studios said the film was a record of a day that brought the music community together on an extraordinary scale, and that preserving the performances and the stories around them had meant a great deal to the company. He said the release would let fans revisit the performances, the tributes and the emotion of the day for years to come.

The day at Villa Park

Back To The Beginning was held at Villa Park, Aston Villa's ground in Birmingham, on Saturday 5 July 2025. It was first announced in February 2025, Louder reported, and it was the first time the original Black Sabbath line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward had been on stage together since 2005. The official site has said there were more than three million requests for tickets.

It ran all day. The actor Jason Momoa acted as master of ceremonies, and the bill ran from Mastodon in the early afternoon through Anthrax, Lamb of God, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Tool and Slayer to Guns N' Roses and Metallica, with most bands playing short sets and a Black Sabbath cover. Yungblud sang Changes, and supergroups brought in guests including Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, Sammy Hagar, Steven Tyler and the former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing.

Michael Hann, reviewing the show for The Guardian, counted about 40,000 people inside the stadium and a peak of 5.8 million more watching the livestream, and called it "metal's Live Aid". Ozzy performed seated on a black throne. His solo set was built on his 1980s hits, including Mr Crowley, Suicide Solution, Mama, I'm Coming Home and Crazy Train. Black Sabbath then closed the night with four songs from their first two albums: War Pigs, NIB, Iron Man and Paranoid.

The review noted how Ozzy struggled with pitch during Mama, I'm Coming Home, with the crowd carrying the song for him, and how Geezer Butler closed the set playing a bass in Aston Villa's claret and blue. The city had marked the week too: the four members of Black Sabbath had been given the freedom of Birmingham, and a city-centre bridge had been renamed in the band's honour.

The show was run as a not-for-profit event. Louder reported that it raised an estimated £6 million to £7 million in total for Birmingham Children's Hospital, Acorns Children's Hospice and Cure Parkinson's.

Seventeen days later

Ozzy Osbourne died on 22 July 2025, aged 76, 17 days after the Villa Park show. He had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019, The Guardian reported, and his health had declined in the years since.

On 30 July thousands of people lined the streets of Birmingham as his funeral procession passed through the city on the way to a private funeral, as Jessica Murray reported for The Guardian. The hearse set off from Aston, passing his childhood home on Lodge Road and Villa Park, and stopped on Black Sabbath Bridge in the city centre, where his family laid roses among hundreds of tributes left by fans. A local brass band, Bostin Brass, played Iron Man ahead of the cortege.

For fans, that gives the film a weight most concert films do not have. It records his final performance, given weeks before his death, in the city where the band started.

A career that started in Aston

Ozzy Osbourne was born John Osbourne in Aston on 3 December 1948 and grew up in a two-bedroom house on Lodge Road, according to The Guardian's obituary by Adam Sweeting. He left school at 15 and worked in a series of factory and trade jobs before music took over.

He joined Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward in a band called Earth, which in 1969 became Black Sabbath, named after a 1963 horror film starring Boris Karloff. Their first album went into the UK Top 10 in 1970, and the follow-up, Paranoid, went to Number 1 later the same year. Its title track reached Number 4, the band's only UK Top 10 single. Albums including Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage followed, before Ozzy was fired from the band in 1979.

His solo career began straight away, with Sharon, who became his manager and in 1982 his wife. His band featured the guitarist Randy Rhoads, who was killed in a plane crash in Florida in 1982. Albums such as Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon and No More Tears kept him among rock's biggest names through the 1980s and early 1990s.

In the late 1990s he and Sharon created Ozzfest, the touring metal festival, and from 2002 the family's MTV reality series The Osbournes made him famous far beyond rock. In 2003 he had his first UK Number 1 single, a new version of Changes recorded with his daughter Kelly. Black Sabbath were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and released a final studio album, 13, in 2013. His last solo albums were Ordinary Man in 2020 and Patient Number 9 in 2022, and his surprise appearance at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham was one of his final public performances before Villa Park.

Since the show

Back To The Beginning is the latest in a run of releases and projects since his death. His memoir Last Rites, written with Chris Ayres, was published in October 2025 and covers his last years with Parkinson's disease and the spinal surgery and complications that followed a fall in 2018, as Elle Hunt reported for The Guardian. A BBC documentary about his final months, Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, was shown the same month.

In March 2026 his son Jack named his newborn daughter Ozzy in his father's honour. In May the family announced a partnership with the technology companies Hyperreal and Proto Hologram to create a life-size digital avatar of Ozzy, an idea that drew criticism from some fans; Jack Osbourne said in response that the project would be tasteful and that he had discussed it with his father, as Sian Cain reported for The Guardian.

What happens next

The standard formats and the digital soundtrack come out on 11 December 2026, and the deluxe box set on 23 April 2027. The cinema release began on 28 October, with screening dates set by individual cinemas.

There will be no more Black Sabbath shows with Ozzy Osbourne, and we do not list any. The band had played farewell shows in Birmingham before, in 1999 and 2017, as Hann noted in his review, but the official announcement describes Villa Park as their historic final performances, and the film is now the way to see them.
